Dolce & Gabbana do Sicily

I'm usually not that into Dolce & Gabbana, but I found the Spring 2013 Menswear collection  super neat.

The inspiration is Sicily, the hometown of Domenico Dolce. Sicily was exhibited in many different ways.

 There was the fancy working dude, stripe-y beach vibes, and the prints of paintings that I could not find the source of. This was all done without getting too campy, which I bet is easy to end up doing, when attempting to capture the feeling of a place. According to the commentators in this Style.com video, it was very authentic. Placing the print on the sports coat was a nice touch, a reminder that this was not an exhibit on Sicily, but a fashion show.
    Going back to the idea of creating an exhibition, age was an important factor in the show. The models seemed to span the ages of 11 through 52. (I geuss there's no age laws for modeling in Milan?) Apparently, many of the models were not models, but men and boys selected from villages throughout Sicily. This decision really made the show allude to the idea of the fashion of an island, rather than fashion inspired by the island.

YES I WANNA DANCE

"Do You Wanna Dance" is currently my favorite song. I never have really had a favorite song, so I am going to commemorate by reviewing all the covers and adaptations that I have heard. I hope you enjoy!

 

"Do You Wanna Dance" was written and recorded by Bobby Freeman in 1958. I usually find the original of most songs pretty swell. This one falls in the swell category, but there have been some great covers, too! Also, the animation is super cute!

Next up is Cliff Richard and the Shadows! Cliff's smooth voice is to die for and I'm a sucker for the shadow's harmony! This one might just be my second favorite.

Okay, The Mamas and The Papas's version has got me all weepy. Yes, I want to dance! Please someone dance with under the moonlight!

Bette Midler's version is nice and all but it honestly does NOT make me want to dance.

The Beach Boy's are beautiful and sweet as per usual, in this version. But it isn't really anything special, to me at least.

THIS ONE IS MY FAVORITE. IT MAKES ME WANT TO DANCE LIKE NO OTHER. AND NO I WILL NOT STOP USING CAPS WHEN SPEAKING ABOUT THIS ONE. EVEN IN REAL LIFE.

dreamy marc jacobs

Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 collection was so cool and surreal. It was super dreamy, but not in a dazed, Virgin Suicides-y way.

 

I loved the top-knot head band-things. Also, look at the textures!

Although these light blue numbers really hit a note with me, there was also other colors, more structured pieces, and less structured pieces.

 both skirts are neat. (is that green cellophane?!) I love the bag on the left and the layering going on on the right. Plus: legwarmers and chokers!! Except the chokers slightly reminded me of that scary story where the girl always wears a green ribbon around her neck and won't tell anyone why and then finally she takes it off and her head drops from her neck. But- in a good way?
